Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information SHIP Home collects through weareship.org, why we collect it and what we do with it. SHIP Home (Stop Human Trafficking in the Pacific) is a New Zealand registered charitable trust, charity number CC63250. We follow the Privacy Act 2020.

If you have a question about this policy, or want to see or correct the information we hold about you, email our privacy officer at info@weareship.org.

If someone is in danger

Please don't use our website to report a situation where someone is at risk. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 111. To tell Police about something that isn't urgent, call 105.

What we collect

When you send us a message through the contact form, we collect your first name, last name, email address and the subject and message you write. Please only share what we need to reply to you, and avoid including personal details about other people.

When you sign up as a prayer partner, we collect your email address.

When you donate, we collect your name, email address, billing details, the amount you give, how often you give and the date. Stripe, our payment provider, processes your card. Your card number goes straight to Stripe. We never see it and our website doesn't store it.

When you visit the website, we collect information about your visit through cookies and Google Analytics. The section on cookies and analytics below explains this.

Our website isn't aimed at children. If you're under 16, please ask a parent or guardian before you send us your details.

How we use it

We use your information to reply to your enquiry, process your donation, send your receipt and keep the financial records a registered charity must keep.

If you sign up as a prayer partner, we use your email address to send you our monthly prayer update.

We keep the details of supporters and people who contact us in our records so we can follow up, thank you and avoid contacting you twice. We may move these records into a supporter database (CRM) in future. If we do, this policy still applies.

We use website analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they read and whether our awareness campaigns bring people to the site.

We don't sell your information, and we don't use it to build advertising profiles.

Emails from us

We only send you prayer updates or other news if you ask for them. Every email has an unsubscribe link, or you can email info@weareship.org and we'll take you off the list.

Who we share it with

We use a few service providers to run the website and our work. They handle your information on our behalf and only for that purpose.

Wix hosts our website and stores contact form messages, prayer partner sign-ups and donation records.

Stripe processes card donations.

Google provides our email (Google Workspace), Google Analytics and Google Search Console.

We'll also share information if the law requires it, for example with Police or Inland Revenue.

These providers may store information outside New Zealand, mainly in the United States. We choose providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to New Zealand law.

Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small files your browser stores when you visit a website. Wix sets cookies the site needs to work and stay secure.

We use Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit, which pages they view, how they found us (for example through a search, a social media post or one of our campaign links) and whether they go on to contact us or donate. Google Analytics uses cookies to tell one visit from another. It records your approximate location (city or region), your device and your browser. It doesn't store your IP address. We see this information as summary reports, and it isn't linked to your name.

Links we share in social media campaigns may include tracking codes (UTM tags) that tell us which campaign brought you to the site. These codes don't identify you.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. To stop Google Analytics recording your visits, use Google's opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

How long we keep it

We keep donation and financial records for seven years, as New Zealand tax law requires.

We keep contact form messages for up to two years after our last contact with you, unless you're an ongoing supporter.

We keep your prayer partner email address until you unsubscribe.

Google Analytics keeps visit data for 14 months, then deletes it.

Keeping it safe

Our website uses a secure (HTTPS) connection. Only people who need access to our website, donation and email accounts have it.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Email info@weareship.org. We'll reply within 20 working days.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page if the way we handle personal information changes. The date at the top shows when we last changed it.
